Ducati Recalls 2010-2014 Multistrada 1200

Ducati has issued a recall notice through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for certain 2010-2014 Multistrada 1200 models. According to the notice, “the inner sleeve of the opening throttle cable may move and prevent the full closing of the throttle.” There are potentially 5962 vehicles affected by the issue.

In the Defect Notice submitted to the NHTSA on March 13, 2015, Ducati North America explains that “throttle rotation may become stiffer than usual” if the defect is present. The potential safety risk is that “obstruction of the throttle cable could result in the inability to close the throttle, possibly resulting in damage to the motorcycle and/or injury to the rider.”

To-date there are no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of the issue. The potential hazard was detected after three field reports with claimed throttle tightness were analyzed by the DHM Quality Department.

Ducati plans to notify owners of affected models and dealers will replace the upper throttle cable cover to remedy the issue, free of charge. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696 for more information. Ducati’s recall ID number is RCL-15-001.

Owners may also go to www.safercar.gov or call the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information. The NHTSA campaign ID number is 15V152000.
