2016 Yamaha YZ250F Anniversary Edition

2016 YZ450F
The YZ450F is back in 2016, featuring some cool improvements and additions that strive to make the already awesome YZ450F even better. Starting at the engine, new intake and exhaust cam profiles, combined with ECU setting boost combustion efficiency and improve the engine’s ease of use in the low- to mid-rpm range. Adjustments were made in the exhaust pipe diameter in its various sections to improve exhaust pulse effect that contributes to high rpm power output, while a new muffler bracket reduces weight. The water pump now employs a new six-hole impeller with increased seal durability for long-term reliability. Of course the GYTR Power Tuner lets owners adjust air/fuel mixture and ignition timing maps to match engine performance characteristics to the rider and track conditions in a matter of seconds with the push of a few buttons, as well as monitor engine diagnostic codes. Revisions to the clutch boss and shift stopper arm provide smooth clutch engagement feel and more precise shifting action when the gate drops.

Yamaha’s aluminum Bilateral Beam frame features a new forged section at the swingarm pivot and 2mm thicker motor mounts to further improve the rigidity balance for more front-end feel, cornering traction and lightweight handling. The footpegs are now 5mm lower. The fully KYB spring-type fork with speed sensitive damping and KYB shock feature refinements to the damping settings while the rear spring rate has dropped one rate. New triple clamps reduce trail with a 25mm (formerly 23mm) fork offset. A larger 270mm front brake rotor coupled with new pad material offers improved stopping power and controllability. The new launch control system (LCS) uses high-precision ECU calculations to optimize power output, providing ideal acceleration off the gate, especially on hard track surfaces. The YZ450F will be available in dealerships in late June.

2016 YZ250F
A new, lightweight, forged, two-ring piston headlines the improvements to the 2016 YZ250F. The piston features a flat crown surface with additional strengthening ribs and a shorter, more durable piston pin with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. Revised piston oil jets direct oil underneath the new piston, which helps promote cooling and contributes to more stable engine performance. Optimized crankshaft and counterbalancer designs provide a revised balance ratio, predictive power delivery, and reduced vibration.

In addition, revisions to the YZ250F clutch boss and shift-stopper arm provide smoother clutch engagement feel and more precise shifting action. New ECU settings result in a smoother transition as the rider reaches the rev limiter, while new brake pad material and a larger 270mm front brake rotor deliver improved stopping power and control for aggressive corner entries. The KYB spring-type fork with speed sensitive damping features revised valving for improved suspension feel and balance in each section of a corner, from entrance to exit. The KYB rear shock also features settings optimized for ideal damping characteristics. The YZ250F will retail for $7590 in Team Yamaha Blue/White and $7690 in Limited-Edition 60th Anniversary Yellow.

2016 YZ250X
This is the all-new 2016 YZ250X, an off-road racer conceived, engineered, and built specifically for Cross Country and Hare Scrambles competition. If it looks like the motocross YZ250 it should, it is almost identical but the YZ250X has been optimized for the unique demands of GNCC and Hare Scrambles racing, retaining the 249cc two-stroke engine. The YZ250X has a revised compression ratio, new exhaust port timing and a new Yamaha Power Valve System with broader opening timing for smoother power combined with a new model-specific CDI unit. A new wide-ratio, five-speed transmission differs from the motocross version.

The lightweight YZ250-spec frame is a carefully engineered combination of aluminum castings, forgings, and extrusions that provide the perfect balance of rigidity and flex, and a fully adjustable, speed-sensitive, KYB suspension has been tuned specifically for the needs of cross-country racers. The YZ250X’s aggressive bodywork is based on the YZ250 motocrosser, but features updated styling from the front fender to the rear brake protector. The bike also comes standard with an aluminum, tapered handlebar, YZ-F-style foot pegs, a gripper seat, Excel rims with Dunlop tires, and a whole host of GNCC-specific features, including an 18-inch rear wheel, sealed O-ring chain, narrow expansion chamber, a convenient side stand, and a fuel tank petcock with reserve position.

The 2016 YZ250X will be available in Team Yamaha Blue/White and will retail for $7390. It will arrive at Yamaha dealerships nationwide beginning in late August.
