Red Bull and Aston Martin team up to build this generation’s hypercar: the AM-RB 001

This generation of cars have been more like a clash of super powers. Various automakers have been working on developing some of the most powerful cars to compete with the current members of the hypercar Holy Trinity. The Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 have set the bar for future hypercars and have challenged the automotive world to do better. Now, Aston Martin is in the works of creating their very own hypercar that will surely take your breath away.

In a recent event at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, UK, the British luxury car manufacturer unveiled their new creation – a hypercar that is a combination of cutting-edge F1 technology and a uniquely Aston Martin design. This hypercar is the product of Aston Martin’s partnership with Red Bull Formula One Team.

This new addition to the growing hypercar family is the creation of Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer and the world’s most successful F1 designer Adrian Newey and Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman. Reichman has since been the British automaker’s design chief since 2015 and is the man behind the One-77, the Aston Martin Vulcan and the latest DB11. These two along with their team of engineers and designers have worked together to create what they have called the Aston Martin AM-RB 001.

The AM-RB 001 was designed to be as quick as an F1 car and as majestic as the One-77. This breathtaking hypercar will be powered by a new mid-mounted high-revving naturally aspirated V12 combined with an F1-style KERS hybrid system that is expected to achieve a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Power output is estimated to come somewhere close to 1,000 horsepower. The AM-RB 001 is expected to be as quick as an F1 or LMP1 race car and run laps in a circuit with ease.

The AB-RB 001 will be a very dramatic but elegantly designed hypercar. Newey’s 30 years of experience in designing F1 race cars will be the most influential factor in styling the Aston hypercar. It will be built with a lightweight carbon-fiber structure that will give the hypercar a total weight of about 1,000 kg. The aerodynamics on the AM-RB 001 will be unlike that on current road-legal cars; it is designed so that the underfloor aerodynamics will generate most of the downforce on this hypercar. Developed by Red Bull Advanced Technologies and designed by Newey, the AM-RB 001 will have a suspension system with innovative technology and a brand new transmission.

The hypercar will come in a compact packaging but despite that, Aston reassures customers that the car will be as comfortable and as spacious as it can be for both the driver and passengers. Aston Martin’s Vice President and Chief Special Operations Officer David King will oversee the production at the same facility in Gaydon that made the One-77. More technical information on the AM-RB 001 will be released in due time.

Aston Martin reveals that they will produce only 99 to 150 units of the AM-RB 001 and each will be sold somewhere along $3,000,000. A variant that could be compared to LMP1 Le Mans sports prototypes is also being developed by the British automaker with only 25 units to be produced. Aston Martin President and CEO Dr. Andy Palmer is very proud of this remarkable project which he believes will be focused more on speed and agility rather than on competing with the Bugatti Chiron. The Aston Martin will start delivery of the AM-RB 001 in 2018.
