A bevy of cool facts is now out in the open to help us get more acquainted with the new Dodge Challenger DRT Demon. But while most have already heard about its 840hp and its 2.3-second acceleration to get from zero to 60, there are a few other details we might not have heard about. In a recent interview with the press, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis has let out more information about the project. Among them is the stock version’s ability to break the 10-second barrier sans the 100 high octane race fuel.
Starting with the Demon’s V-8 cooling system, we learned that it is actually capable of rejecting 258kW of heat at rated power. The radiator’s heat rejection is equivalent to 250 oven toasters – the same amount of heat required when you need to boil 1 quart of water in a room temperature within 1.2 seconds.
It was also revealed that the Demon’s high- octane fuel can flow at a rate of 1.36 gallons per minute at rated power. In comparison, a typical shower head can flow at the rate of 2 gallons for every 60 seconds.
During a quarter mile run for instance, the V-8 is capable of ingesting 173 cubic feet of air or equal to the lung capacity of 816 humans. At 800 feet into a quarter mile, the V-8 surprisingly can empty out the entire cabin’s 105 cubic feet of air. Meanwhile, the Demon’s piston and connecting rod has been loaded with 11 tons of force on each power stroke. It was also revealed that this occurs 50x per second at approximately 6,300 rounds per minute. Working together, the TransBrake and Torque Reserve can generate up to 317 pound feet of incremental torque for total output of 534lb-ft during acceleration.
With 11,164lb-ft of ring gear at the driveline, remarkably, the Demon has the capacity to generate up to 1.8Gs at launch. Comparing it with Bugatti Veyron’s 1.55G, the Dodge Demon is evidently more capable of pulling off a larger amount of accelerative forces. That’s about 2,500 pounds or 1 ton of gear torque delivered from front to rear wheels off the line.
To give off that massive number of G-force, Dodge’s most potent muscle car is wrapped with a set of 315/40R 18 Nitto NT05R drag radials measuring 18-inches (in diameter) and 11-inches (wide). Since the Demon produces massive amounts of launch force, it also sees the need to depend on transmission locks instead of merely relying on brakes.
