Aprilia Shiver 750 & Caponord 1200 Recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for certain Aprilia Shiver 750 and Caponord 1200 motorcycles owing to a defect with the output gear shaft face. Models included in the recall are 2014-2015 Shiver 750s manufactured from February 10, 2014 to October 28, 2014 and 2014-2015 Caponord 1200 motorcycles manufactured from November 14, 2013 to October 16, 2014. There are 337 units potentially affected by the recall.

According to the defect notice submitted to the NHTSA on January 9, 2015, “the output gear shaft face may not be machined to proper specifications. The screw fastening the sprocket may come loose, causing the rear wheel to lock momentarily or completely.” To-date, there have been no reported cases of accidents, injuries or fatalities related to the issue.

Owners of affected models will be contacted by mail and asked to take the motorcycles to an authorized Aprilia dealer. There, the component will be checked and, if necessary, replaced free of charge.
