Late last year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the open variant of their S-class coupe which Daimler board member Ola Källenius describes as a symbol of their passion for individual and timeless mobility that the German automaker has since shared with their customers. The S-Class Cabriolet shows the same distinctive Sonderklasse elegance as that of its coupe.
As cool as the S-Class Cabrio may be, German auto tuner Brabus proves that the open variant S-Class still has a lot of room for improvement. S-Class Cabrio owners may now opt to upgrade their convertibles to an even powerful Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio option.
The Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio option as we have mentioned, is based on Mercedes-Benz’ current S-Class Cabriolet. Unlike the standard convertible S-Class, this modified S-Class Cabrio will come with a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The 850 on its name symbolizes the power that this modified S-Class Cabrio possesses. Its twin-turbocharged V8 engine can actually produce 850 ponies and a torque output of 1,069 lb.-ft. That’s quite powerful for a drop-top S-Class, don’t you think?
Brabus modifies the S-Class Cabrio by making it the quickest of its kind and the fastest among all of the four-seater convertibles in the market today. The 850 Biturbo can sprint from 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of about 217 mph. Brabus was really serious when it said it wasn’t holding back with making the 850 Biturbo the fastest of its kind.
The 850 Biturbo is limited to the 217 mph top speed because it is trying to protect its tires from damage but the German auto tuner says that it is capable of doing more. To compensate for this limitation, a subtle aero package made from bare carbon fiber as well as a new set of alloy wheel designs in 21-inch and 22-inch configurations is offered. Hopefully these additions will help release the 850 Biturbo’s full potential and will not compromise the car at the same time.
Brabus does not require customers to buy the 850 Biturbo from them but those who wish to get an upgrade must own a Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Cabrio. Brabus will happily install all of the 850’s upgrades into existing S63 AMG Cabrios and will give their customers the complete satisfaction that they deserve. Prices are yet to be announced but judging from the extensive change that the S-Class Cabrio has to undergo, we’re guessing it would cost as much as buying a new one.
