Italdesign’s Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro pay homage to the Chevrolet Corvette’s 50-year reign as the epitome of the American sports car with their Moray project, which was launched at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show.

Moray, a fish that looks like an eel, is the inspiration for this car with its pure profile that appears to be pulled by drifting tides with its long and slim front lights.

Another design characteristic that makes it resemble a moray is its sinuous contour line that forms the long front portion (a signature feature of the Corvette grill) that lends to a much stronger, more emphasized curvature in the serpentine bonnet. Since this has a forward projection, it is a contrast to the elevated cut-off tail.

The doors swing open similar to that of a seagull as there is a merging of the side window and its roof. The clear semi-dome of these doors is attached to the rear door frame, guaranteeing easy access to the car’s interior.

As the door wings are easy to take off, they make it easy to form a Moray from this coupe. And with its roof panel positioned under the one-of-a-kind crystal dome, it then transforms into a quasi roadster. By taking away the B door frame, the occupants benefit and get a fresh-air atmosphere.

The Giugiaro tandem replaced this component with a central arch-shaped steel structure where we see that the two wings have been hinged. The car has no side mirrors and instead, it has a telecamera system with dashboard-integrated viewers in keeping with the car’s philosophy of freshness and freedom.

As the bodyshell and paintwork color merge into the capsule, they become one. Soft leather upholstery prepared with the help of Draxlmaier Group covers the surfaces on the interior. Of course, it has the instruments on the dashboard that are required by any dynamic driver.

However, the passenger can take on the co-pilot role and have in front of him a similar dashboard design. The Moray is powered by a V8 engine from the Chevrolet Corvette that’s mounted in the front, delivering as much as 400hp. Like the sea animal, this Corvette is agile, beautiful, and sleek. Furthermore, balance is no less than exceptional with its Michelin Pilot sport 335/30 ZR20 rear tyres.
