If you love cars, then you definitely heard of the Gemballa Mirage GT based on the impressive Porsche Carrera GT, a supercar introduced back in 2004. Only 1,270 units were ever produced and only 25 were supposed to became a Mirage GT. The bad news is that Gemballa already sold 23 units and the good news is that only 2 Mirage GT models are still available.
Each unit is powered by a 5.7-liter V10 engine that was upgraded from 612 hp to 670 hp and from 590 to 630 Nm of torque. Using a 6-speed manual transmission, the Gemballa Mirage GT is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, while top speed is 335 km/h or 208 mph.
Meanwhile, the new body kit is made of carbon fiber and consists of a new aprons and a big rear spoiler. In addition, the Mirage GT gets a new exhaust system that resembles the jet engines and enhances the sound.
After it will sell the remaining Mirage GT models, Gemballa announced that it is already working on another limited-edition masterpiece, this time based on the new Porsche 918 Spyder. Just like the Mirage GT, Gemballa’s 918 Spyder will also see a limited production of just 25 units.
“The MIRAGE GT is a real collector’s item. This is attested to by the fact that these cars have lost hardly any of their value,“ saysGEMBALLA’s managing director Andreas Schwarz: “When the series is no longer being produced, the collector’s value is going to rise again. Many Arabian royals own such a car.“
CFR (or carbon-fibre reinforced plastic) has long been used in the aerospace application. However, nothing has been heard of about its use on a vehicle. But it looks like we don’t have to wait another lifetime for it to happen. Porsche has recently registered a patent for the use of this sophisticated principle and applied the same on the new Carrera GT.
The new Porsche Carrera GT’s body frame is built with CFR materials and even comes with a monocoque chassis. Once again, Porsche engineers have considered the racing requirements and made it possible for a road car to be safe and high performing at the same time. Its superior strength coupled with lightweight structure provides outstanding driving dynamics and excellent performance.
On the same note, the new Carrera GT’s aerodynamics efficiency is very important considering its 205mph top speed. This is why Porsche came up with the underfloor geometry of a racecar for this model. As a result, the carbon underfloor can produce a highly unusual suction effect between the air intakes and the rear diffuser.
Amazingly, the new Carrera GT is set up with the right spring and damper to maintain its balance at any given speed. After all, Porsche’s high performing model range also needs a hyper sensitive suspension. This type of strategy is derived from the motorsport wherein the spring functions through the pivot levers and stainless steel pushrods within the chassis.
Meanwhile, the Porsche Carrera GT’s very light and stylish interior is made with carbon fibre, magnesium and the finest leather materials. The Kevlar bucket seats in fact only weight 10.3kg or half the standard weight of the usual seats. Without a doubt, these impressive new elements bring out the Carrera GT’s sporty and elegant style.
